MicroSatellite DataBase (MSDB) is a collection of simple sequence repeats (SSRs), also known as microsatellites. Microsatellites are short tandem repeats of 1 to 6 base long motifs present in all genomes. They are studied for their utility as molecular markers and in forensics, and more recently for their gene regulatory functions. In addition, many studies point towards their role in evolution owing to their high rates of polymorphism both within and among species. MSDB aims to be the go to resource for both accessing as well as visualizing SSR related information.
