Advances in transcriptomics have led to the discovery of a large number of long intergenic non coding RNAs (lincRNAs), which are now recognized as important regulators of diverse cellular processes. Although originally thought to be non coding, recent studies have revealed that many lincRNAs are bound by ribosomes, with a few lincRNAs even having ability to generate micropeptides.
